Lumecca Intense Pulsed Light
Lumecca is the most powerful IPL treatment available, optimized to treat vascular lesions and pigmentation in a variety of skin types. By delivering 3X higher power, lesions can be treated in 1-2 sessions compared to 4-6 sessions as seen with other IPL devices. After just one use, patients will notice significant improvements in the complexion and clarity of the skin. Lumecca uses photothermolysis, which provides a photofacial through the delivery of a comfortable light treatment.

What do I need to do prior to Lumecca IPL?
It is important to avoid direct, excessive sun exposure or tanning one month prior to treatment. Lumecca treatments are not recommended on tanned skin. It is recommended to use sunscreen daily for 3 weeks prior to treatment.
What to expect during and after Lumecca IPL?
During treatment there will be a bright flash of light from Lumecca, and a sensation on your skin that feels like a light snap from an elastic band. Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal and usually subside within a few hours. Over the next 24-48 hours you may see a darkening of pigmented spots; in the week afterwards, the pigmented lesions flake off, leading to an evening out of skin tone. After treating vascular lesions, you may see the vein blanch and disappear, or a colour change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days.
There is no downtime after Lumecca treatments although it is recommended to use sunscreen daily and avoid tanning for 3 weeks post treatment.
What areas can be treated by Lumecca IPL?
Lumecca can be used on all areas of the body. The most common areas of treatment are areas regularly exposed to the sun. This often includes the face, neck, chest, arms, hands and legs. Lumecca is not suitable in darker skin tone individuals (Fitzpatrick type 4-6).
How many treatments are recommended?
Although improved skin appearance can be noted after the first treatment, multiple treatments will provide even better results. Treatment regime depends on the severity of skin damage, skin type, type of treatment (vascular vs sun damage) and recommended energy settings.
When will I see results?
Initial results can be seen a few days after the first treatment; however, the skin will continue to look younger and more brilliant over time with most visible results after 1-2 weeks. Having multiple photofacial treatments will improve the final result. For vascular treatments such as facial telangiectasias, results can be seen in up to 2 weeks.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are extremely rare, and any skin reaction typically resolves within a few hours. Patients may notice that they are sensitive to sunlight immediately after treatments. It is recommended to use sunscreen daily and avoid tanning for 3 weeks post treatment.
